Online Dating Tips-I See Someone I Like-Now What?

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Jennifer L. Hunt HTML Source EditorWord wrap So, youve signed up to a couple of dating sites and have actually found a few people youd like to get to know better maybe even date. What do you do now? Well, you can put up your profile and wait for someone to contact you, but youll probably get much better results if you take the initiative. When you find someone interesting and feel the urge to say “Hey”, dont be bashful! That person may just love to hear from you. After all, they created a profile, just like you, in hopes of meeting someone. You definitely wont know unless you contact them and find out. Ladies, dont be shy - men love to be pursued! How do you initiate contact? The most common ways to contact someone is with an email, an instant message, or a wink. I recommend saving the instant messaging until youve exchanged a few emails because it gives you more time to think about what you are going to say and to get a feel for the other person. Once you get more familiar with each other, then you can start chatting. If you dont have a paid membership, youll most likely be limited to using winks or smiles or something similar. These are canned messages that will say something like “Nancy is interested in you” or “Joe winked at you”. Winks and smiles are a quick way to say hello but drastically limit your ability to pique someones interest. This puts a lot of pressure on having a terrific profile because it will have to do all of your talking for you. Email is best in the beginning. Emailing a potential date is a lot like flirting. The purpose of the first email is to get them to respond, to open a dialogue. You want to get their interest but leave it open ended so that they will respond back to you. Keep your emails short and charming. Another tip: dont send a barrage of emails to one person, follow their pace and try to keep up. (If they send 4 a week, you send 4 or so a week.) So How Do You Write That First Email? When replying to personal ads, try to be, well, personable. Write at least a paragraph or two about yourself and what you like about them or their personal ad. Many of the principles of profile writing apply to email, such as staying positive, being honest, and paying close attention to spelling and grammar. Meeting someone online is very exciting and can make you feel like a love struck teenager, but do your best not to sound like one. Most of us are looking for someone that is a little more mature, someone that has potential for being a lifetime partner. When you first start communicating with a person, there is nothing wrong with flirtation, being happy, and laughing, but make sure its not over the top. Also, dont start by pouring out your soul, telling him or her all about your ex-spouse or ex-significant other. Avoid talking about personal things such as financial problems, health issues, or stories about your dysfunctional family. This is a huge turnoff, and an excellent way to scare someone away. Save that kind of talk for your Thursday night poker game or day at the hairdresser. If you are a single parent, a little bit of conversation about your kids is fine to break the ice and find common ground, but remember you are trying to build a romantic connection, so keep it too a minimum. Always be honest! If the relationship moves forward, the truth will come out eventually. Its far better to be yourself up front rather than tell a silly lie in the beginning, only to be found out and have a potential relationship fall apart. Keep it positive! The last thing anyone wants is to send a message to someone and in the response, hear all about their past failed relationships, health problems, or financial woes. You can share the doom and gloom after you get to know each other a little bit. Or better yet, just put all that stuff behind you and move on. Theres no time like the present to start fresh! Compliment something you found interesting in their profile. This is where its important to read the persons profile. It gives you things to talk about. For example, if you are a woman and you find a man interesting and he has Labrador dogs just like you, you could say something like, “Hi. My name is Mary and I noticed in your profile that you have Labs. I do too!” From there, give a brief description of your dog, mention that you would enjoy hearing back, and sign off. Avoid overtly sexual comments. Dont come on too strong at first with sexual innuendos and try not to comment on the persons photo. Find something a little more deep to comment on, maybe something they said in their description. Find a way to continue the communication. The main point of the first email is to get them to notice you and to respond back to you. Dont give up too much information, but tell them enough to get them interested. You are trying to get a conversation going, so asking questions is a good idea, as long as you dont ask too many. Mention things you have in common, and ask a question or two about them. For example, when you first start messaging with someone, you could ask, “Did you do anything fun this week?” “Do you have any great plans for the weekend?” This will help you learn more about the person without seeming nosey. After you have been communicating with someone special for a while, you can use innocent questions to see if you can find an opening in time when the two of you might meet. Try to avoid long letters with little details that might be considered boring. Keep it to the point, but try to let your personality shine through. Then, a good rule of thumb is “compliments and questions.” An earnest compliment on the persons accomplishments, writing style, or life goals will say a lot. Here are a couple of good, ice-breaking starter topics: If you live in the same area, comment on the area, or something relating to it. If you dont live in the same area, you can ask questions about where they are. Music and movies are also a good conversation-starter; most everyone likes some kind of music or movie. Maybe you went to the same college or better yet, a rival school. Poking fun at rival schools is always a fun way to break the ice. And sign your real first name If you work this right, the person will contact you back. Remember, even if you get a response, youll have to keep their interest. In the emails that follow, keep asking questions and keep complimenting (while remaining honest and positive). When you feel comfortable, you can move on to more intimate forms of communication like instant messaging, the telephone, and eventually, meeting in person. If a day goes by and you havent heard from them, rather than inundate the individuals mailbox with messages, leave one short, sweet message that provides a small hint to prompt him or her to reply. Remember Dont give out your full name, personal email address, or phone number in this initial email; wait until youre both interested and its apparent that its going somewhere. Wait. Why Some Class Reunions Never Get Off the Ground

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Robert Hirscheimer If you were a member of your class executive committee, you may feel it is your obligation to organize a class reunion. Many people fail to accomplish this goal for 3 reasons. The number one reason that people never get the high school reunion planned is that they were unable to generate enough interest. Planning a class reunion requires money. In order to know how much of a budget you have, you need to get some sort of indication from people if they will come or not. As the organizer, the first priority is to get enough people interested that it makes sense to organize an event with a venue, food and entertainment. To be able to do that you need to know that there will be participation or else you will be financing the class reunion by yourself. The second reason that reunions sometimes do not get off the ground is that not enough people find out about the event. Ten years or more after graduation many classmates have moved and changed addresses (often more than once). Finding people is a big part of the challenge of generating interest, because if you cant find them, it is tough to try and get them interested in a high school reunion. Another stumbling block in high school reunion planning relates to the task of collecting funds. Assuming that you have found a large percentage of people, and you have succeeded in getting people psyched about the class reunion, the next major hurdle is getting them to commit to coming. Many people become procrastinators when it comes time to separate themselves from their money. Therefore, the more options you have for accepting payment the better. All three of these potential obstacles can be avoided by creating a website for the class reunion. It is recommended to create your high school reunion website at least a year prior to the event. That will give you plenty of time to generate interest, find people and collect money. The more time you have the better because classmates can save the date if they have enough notice. Creating a class reunion website populated with events and trivia from the year you graduated is a great way to get people reminiscing about high school. The website also acts as a point of registration where classmates can update their profile and RSVP online. The website is viral in nature, so as people find out about it they tell others, who tell their friends, who tell their friends and so on. The reunion website also allows people to pay for a ticket with a credit card. People have become accustomed to paying for things with credit cards and it is often viewed as quicker and easier than writing and mailing a check. Making a high school reunion website is fast and easy to do. There are easy class reunion website builders that require no special skills. You will just be filling in forms and clicking on buttons. It is truly as easy as surfing the web or sending an email. If you are considering planning your high school reunion, dont even think of doing it without creating a website. Robert Hirscheimer is the President of http://Myevent.com the #1 website builder on the Internet. http://www.myevent.com allows anyone to create an incredible website with no skills for any event. There are special features for Class Reunion Websites, Family Reunion websites, Wedding Websites, or a website for any event. To create a website for a class reunion go to http://www.reunions.myevent.com and start a 7 day free trial with no credit card required. The cost is only $9.95 after the free trial. Universal Salvation: God’s Love and Grace Will Overwhelm All Men!

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By John Moneypenny I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service; even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. And yet I was shown mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am the foremost of all. And yet for this reason I found mercy, in order that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience, as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.- 1 Timothy 1:12-17 The more feedback that I receive on my opinions about the gospel, the more I typically hear people defending their position against universal salvation as the following: “People who reject God and don’t want to have anything to do with Him will not be forced by God into heaven. God is a gentleman and will give those folks what they desire. If they don’t want to be in His presence, He’ll make sure they are not there.” Here’s a couple of thoughts that come to my mind… 1. What “God” do they not want to have anything to do with? I’m going to guess that it is “religion’s” god. The god who demands absurd levels of obedience, who is ready to shoot a lightning bolt through their head every time they screw-up, and the one who hates most of his very own creation enough to have a never-ending barbeque awaiting them for not placing their trust in this wonderful savior. I knew that god once, too, and I didn’t want to have anything to do with him either. How many dear people do you think are out there, even in our church-saturated America, who have never heard the gospel of grace, of universal salvation, nor that God loves and will save all mankind? The only god they have been introduced to is either too weak to save His creation or chooses not to. 2. What kind of a “God” is it that, knowing the supposed doom of the majority of his creation, either can’t figure out a solution to the problem, doesn’t have the ability to solve it, or worse yet, has the power to solve it yet coldly refuses to do so? Gang, I don’t care how rebellious, hateful, or unloving my own child is toward me, if I see him running toward the street with a tanker truck headed right for him, I’m chasing that child of mine down, tackling him to the ground, and dragging him back to safety. I will do whatever it takes to rescue my child from his doom whether he wants me to, thinks that he needs me to, believes that I am capable of doing it, or not. I love him, he’s mine, and I will do what I have to in order to rescue him. Will not our sovereign, all-powerful God do the same for His loved ones? 3. The Lord God will force all men to be saved through His love and grace. Would it offend you to know that God actually forces His will on your will so that your will is changed into joyful agreement with His and He achieves what He wants? Most Christians insist that God would never force anything on anybody. Hes too much of a gentleman. The Apostle Paul, for a number of reasons, sees it differently: For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God (Romans 8:20-21). The Gentleman imposed His will on His creation so that we would be set free from our slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. Ill take that sort of rudeness from my Lord any day! Paul had another reason for knowing that God would impose His will on ours for our good. He tells us that he is the foremost of sinners. Paul will always be at the top of the list when it comes to rebellious, self-righteous, defiant sinners. Nobody has or will exceed the sinner who, nevertheless, God saved. And if God saved Paul, He can save anyone, willing or not. On the road to Damascus, Paul was not seeking out God, not repentant, not deep in prayer contemplating whether or not to accept Jesus as his Savior. He was in the middle of hunting down more believers to have them persecuted. He was deep, deep in unbelief. Yet, God zapped him into a new man and a believer in an instant. Paul did not say the “sinner’s prayer”. He did not make Jesus the Lord of his life. He was given the revelation by God that Jesus is Lord and his will was subjected to Gods, case closed! God used force to change the man Saul into the willing new man, Paul. But He did it with grace. Paul tells us that “the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus” (1 Tim. 1:14). That phrase, “more than abundant”, literally means “overwhelming”. God’s love, grace, and faith overwhelmed Paul. He was incapable of fighting it off or rejecting it. It would have been like trying to stop a tsunami wave with your hand and having it’s power wash right over and through you like you were a speck of sand. The end result would be that you and the wave would become one. No one has the perfectly correct knowledge of God in this age or in any past. Some men believe now, but all will know in the future when God will be All in all. All men will know, see, and rejoice in the fact that He is Lord and Savior. We will know and experience the true love and grace of God in a way that we have not and presently cannot. There will be none who reject Him, or don’t want to have anything to do with Him, or wish they were anywhere else but in His presence. We will all be overwhelmed by the One who, because of His love, grace, mercy, patience, kindness, etc., forcibly brought us to Himself through the cross of Jesus Christ. Glory to God!, John Moneypenny Gospel For Today Ministries’ president, John Moneypenny, is an ordained minister with a Master of Divinity degree who has traveled across the country teaching and preaching the liberating message of God’s redemption of all mankind through the cross of Jesus Christ. Would You Hire You?

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Melanie Szlucha Seem like a strange question? You spend so much time applying for jobs and feeling like youre at the mercy of the employer that its a radical thought to imagine you actually have control over the situation. So take a step back and imagine that you are the hiring manager for your ideal job. Start by taking a look at your resume. What does it say about you as a person? Does it tell an accurate and complete story about your jobs and skills? What words would you use to describe the person depicted on the resume? Successful? Competent? Intelligent? Outgoing? Creative? Or Boring? Non-descript? Not motivated? Just from reading the resume, can you get a complete picture of what you did in your past jobs and what your accomplishments were? Most resumes I see are way too thin. They need to have complete sentences and should tell a story about the person theyre meant to describe. The employer isnt going to look at the resume and be impressed with how few words you managed to put on a page, but they will be impressed when they read about how your career has evolved through the years. Now take a look at the job youre applying for. Grab a highlighter and highlight all of the words or phrases in the job posting that tell you exactly what the employer is looking for. If you know that you have those skills, are they easy to find on your resume? Do you highlight those skills in your cover letter? You dont stand a chance of getting the job you want if you dont show the employer that youve got exactly what theyre looking for. So, would you hire you, or at the very least do you pique enough interest to warrant an employer calling you for a phone interview? Dont feel that you are at the mercy of the employer. You control how you position yourself relative to what they are looking for, and if you do it well and show them that you are a match, you stand a much better chance of getting that all important phone interview. Mutual Funds - Low Risk Yet High Return

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Bob Janeway Why do we invest money in a particular business? It is a question that you should answer first before you start any kind of business. Successful investors always remember to include every detail on their planning activities– and they have answered every vital question that they should address first. You invest money for profit. Thus, you need to consider investments that can give you a high return. You might consider gambling your capital in a stock market, where every cent can be doubled or tripled, depending on market conditions. Since stocks could be easily acquired and sold, it is one of the viable options that you may consider in choosing an investment portfolio. However, a high return may also come with high risk. Do you remember the unwritten rule “high risk yet high return” and “low risk yet low return”? It is true that investing in the stock market may give you a huge profit, but expect your capital to be at a high risk. Unstable market conditions might cause you to lose all of your money. If you do not like taking high risks, the stock market is not an ideal investment for you. You may look for an alternative that could give you the same return but with lower risk than investing in stocks. If you are under this category of investors, then you might consider investing in mutual funds. Mutual funds are a good alternative for investors who do not want to take the risk when getting a huge profit. It is a “common fund” or amount of money pooled by a group of investors with a definite investment objective. Such pooled money would be managed by a fund manager, an individual who specializes in different types of investments, such as bonds and stocks. He would be the one responsible in managing and investing the pooled money in different securities. In mutual funds, all profits and losses will be shared among the fund’s shareholders. In other words, all profits as well as losses will be shared among the group according to the percentage of individual share in the fund. For instance, if you are a group of five investors, investing $20,000 each, making your mutual fund to be worth a hundred thousand dollars. All profits as well as losses would be distributed on a 20-percent basis, thus reducing all possible risks. Aside from the low-risk feature of mutual funds, you need not to be an expert in stocks or other forms of securities. The fund manager would be the one to take care of it. In addition, you can diversify your capital and spread it to other types of investment. Diversification means spreading all of your money into several investments. In case one investment is down, there are other investments that you can concentrate with. Thus, you will not be losing all of your money in a single investment as well as maximizing your potential profit through other types of investments. The mutual funds will automatically diverse your investment across bonds or other securities. Again, the fund manager would be the one to handle all transactions and determine if it is viable for you to invest on that particular security. Form a pool of investors and combine all of your capital into a single mutual fund. Share the huge profits out of diversified investments as well as enjoy the reduced-risk feature that comes along with it. Hot New Wedding and Reception Trends

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Kathleen Terrana Similar to the fashion industry, wedding experts around the country track which wedding and reception trends are hot and those that have lost popularity. Many say that the traditional garter toss, disposable cameras on each table, and having DJs at the reception are currently out of favor with most couples. However, DJs remain very popular in the Southwest. Here are some general guidelines as to the trends that are gaining popularity today: Brides and grooms are honoring their family and heritage by using ethnic customs in the ceremony. Grooms cakes are making a big comeback and are decorated to reflect the grooms hobbies, sports teams or profession. Coffee and expresso bars are featured at the reception. Instead of limousines, couples are using luxury SUVs, vintage, classic, and sports cars to transport them from the ceremony to the reception. Couples are registering for a honeymoon fund. Specialty drinks and food stations such as organic juice bars, martini bars and sushi bars are featured at the reception. Couples are requesting that leftover food from the reception be given to a local food bank. Different sizes and shapes of tables as well as chair covers make the reception feel more cozy. Spotlighting the dance floor, wedding cake, or head table gives these areas special emphasis. CDs are given to the guests as wedding favors. This may include a special thank you to the guests as well as a favorite song of the bride and groom. One of the most popular trends today is for the bride and groom to write or email their guests months in advance with a save-the-date card. This is mailed before the invitation and gives each guest plenty of time to prepare for the wedding date and make necessary arrangements. How to Find Antique Collectibles

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Monique Hawkins Are you an antique collector? Are you a serious collector that is looking for a specific antique such as a certain piece of furniture, a unique car, or perhaps a specific antique painting that suits your taste? If so, then you know it is not always an easy task to find the items you are looking for, especially if you don’t know where to look. Maybe you just love to shop for different antiques on a smaller scale. This could include collectible items such as toys and figurines. There are many different types of antique art that can be purchased and even a wide variety of antique books may be found. The key is to know where to find all of the great items that are out there. Finding your antiques So the question that many collectors have is just where to find the good stuff anyway? The thing that makes being an antique collector different is that you can’t just go to the store and buy the item you want, no matter how much money you have. It can literally be an Easter egg hunt to try to find the treasures you seek. When you are shopping for antique collectibles but do not have a specific item in mind or if you do not plan to spend a large amount of money, then a flea market is a great place to shop. However, if it is a specific item you are looking for, then many sites on the Internet can provide you with the location of these items. For instance, if you are looking for an automatic musical instrument, then MBSI is an organization that can provide you with many of these antiques. Several of these musical instruments may be viewed, bought or traded by its members at the conventions that are held. There are also many advertisements on the organization?s site that list antiques that people sell all over the country. Another great organization that can supply you with automatic musical instruments is AMICA. This site can stun its visitors with their elegant antique player pianos. Organizations such as these can provide you with information on dealers both locally and from around the world. There are also many organizations that let you subscribe to lists that will tell you when they have sales and auctions for antiques. Looking Online There are many places online where you can look for antiques. The great thing about the internet is that it brings a much larger world straight to you. GoAntiques.com is a site that can help you locate a specific item by pinpointing precisely where you should look. If the item is being sold in more than one place, they can give you this information, allowing you the opportunity to find the best price available for the antique of your choice. Anteq.com is another useful site. This company caters to antique collectors, antique dealers, and antique malls of the world. Anteq.com is committed to meeting the needs of the antiques & collectibles community by providing professional software and support. eBay is yet another popular place to look online for antique collectibles. There are people from all over the world buying, selling, and trading collectibles and antiques on eBay. Some of the best deals out there can be found on eBay. Another great thing about finding your collectibles online is the wonderful and wider selection than you would find at a local show or sale. If you do not have a specific item in mind but are looking in certain categories such as, books, paintings, or coins, online sites such as eBay is a terrific place to look for these types of antiques. Antique jewelry and dishes are also a big hit with collectors and can be found on this site. It is one of the fastest and easiest ways to shop for collectibles. Joining Clubs and Groups You might also want to check to see if your local town or city has an antique collector’s club or group that you can join. This would be a way for you to meet other people who share your passion and who can guide you to some of the best places to find what you are looking for. If none can be found in your town, why not start one yourself? Antique collecting is a passion for many people. Finding the right collectibles may not always be easy. Costly Web Copy Pitfalls

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Vanessa Selene Williams One secret to a site that sells: Look at your site from your customers perspective. Another secret: Watch out for these common web copy pitfalls. Welcome tonothing Look at your sites web copy. Does it begin with Welcome to? If so, get rid of it. It means nothing. It doesnt speak to your customers. Its just a waste of your customers time and space. Rather than the worn out phrase, Welcome to try a statement that captures the essence of your company, explaining it in terms thatll benefit your customers. Instead of Welcome to Crazy Daves CD Emporium, try Crazy Daves CD Emporium, where you can find quality CDs and crazy prices. Where do I go? If you track your sites metrics, look at your customers paths. How many customers get past the home page? If its less than desired, there might be a problem with your sites navigation. If youre one of those people with mega-content sites, add an internal search to help your customers find there way. If youre a smaller site, add navigation bars that update automatically when your sites structures changes or evolves. Its all about me.Your site is supposed to be about your customers not you. Lets face it: Your customers dont care about your Nobel Prize or that you were the first person to sell a condominium on Jupiter, they do care, however, about how your expertise can help them. Quick tip: Visit your site. Does the copy contain more we, me, and I statements than you and your? MarcoPolo Have you ever visited a site to be sold on the product, then when you needed to ask a quick question, you couldnt find their contact information? The solution: Put at least an email address or phone number on each page, preferably at the top or bottom. Then put more detailed contact information on your contact page. Rarely read but really important.Just the presence of terms and conditions and privacy policies instills confidence in your product. It also eases the minds of your more anxious customers. Vague, iffy, testimonials Testimonials are the easiest and perhaps the best way to capture your customers attention and confidence. But simple statements saying that your product is good, wont work. Detailed testimonials praising how much your product improved their life work best. Another way to give testimonials more selling power, get a picture. Even better, get a picture with you customer using your product or benefiting from your service. Vanessa Selene Williams an independent writer who writes for businesses and corporations.
